Contact the Diversity & Inclusiveness Committee

We, the Steward Observatory D&I Committee, invite your input as we continue to improve the diversity and inclusiveness of our community. Our work toward a fully inclusive, safe, and welcoming educational, research, and work environment is, in large part, guided by the input from members of our community. Please help us by sending your ideas, suggestions, concerns, and feedback to our committee!

Policy and Confidentiality: We may receive communications of a broad nature – some of which are strictly confidential and some are very sensitive in nature. In order to ensure a consistent and correct handling of the information we received and the actions that follow, we established a written policy. Please, see the end of the page for an explanation of what happens with the input you provide.

Communication Channels: Starting from 2019 we began developing an increasing number of communication channels with different levels of anonymity to best match the nature of your communication:

1) Email to the entire committee: Emails sent to the "so-diversity-input” address at the domain “list.arizona.edu” will be immediately forwarded to the entire committee, as long as it is sent from a University of Arizona email or from other common mail services. This is the simplest and most direct way to get your input to the committee - we encourage you to use this option for most communication. Of course, you should know that this channel is non-anonymous.

2) Email to our anonymous submission channel: This option is under development – we are working on figuring out the best tool to use.

3) Meet with a committee member: In-person meetings are a great way to communicate with our committee and to receive immediate feedback or advice from one of our members. We encourage you to step in our offices or drop an email to set up a meeting time.

4) Meet with the Chair of the Committee: The Chair of the Committee always welcome input and glad to meet with you in person. Please email the chair to set up a time for a meeting.

5) Meet with the D&I Committee: Our biweekly D&I Committee meetings are open – please join our meetings if you are interested in our discussions! We are also glad to discuss your ideas, suggestions, and concerns. If you would like to bring a topic, please, email the chair in advance, so we can allocate time for the discussion at our upcoming meeting.

6) Anonymous input boxes: Three boxes are set up at the Steward Observatory’s primary sites to receive your input. The boxes provide a non-electronic, anonymous method for one-way communication with the committee. The boxes are locked and only Committee members have access to them. Look for our blue boxes at the Steward Office’s mailroom, at the Mirror Lab’s mailroom, and at Tech Park’s mailroom!
