Steward-Cast Mirror to be Polished at Optical Sciences
The Optical Sciences mirror fabrication facility now has the capability to polish 6.5 meter mirrors. You can read about the process needed to get such mirrors into the OpSci basement HERE, with photos HERE and in the figure above. Coupled with the existing capabilities at the Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab, this allows the University of Arizona to get mirrors to telescopes faster than ever.
