Raymond E. White, Jr. 21" Telescope on Campus
The Raymond E. White, Jr. 21" telescope is the workhorse telescope for our undergraduate general education courses and our on-campus public viewing. The telescope is operated by undergraduate students for nightly viewing during the term to serve our large undergraduate student population in the introductory astronomy course. It is housed in the iconic Steward Observatory dome and is conveniently located just outside our large lecture hall. For this same reason, it is used as part of our Public Evening Lecture Series for observing after the bi-weekly public astronomy talks during the term given by our faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and visitors that are open to the general public.
